How to restyle subtitles and captions on YouTube and Netflix

Updated May 13, 20264 min read

Browser and platform caption settings are limited and often override each other. VidBar's caption overlay lets you restyle subtitles per-site without touching system preferences — bigger text, custom colours, outline, shadow, or a full custom position.

    Save as a per-site preset

Pin your settings to YouTube or Netflix so they apply automatically on every visit.

FAQ

  • Does caption restyling work with auto-generated YouTube subtitles?

Yes — VidBar intercepts the caption overlay regardless of whether captions are human or auto-generated.

  • Will this affect Netflix's own subtitle settings?

VidBar overrides the visual style only. Netflix subtitle language and sync settings still work normally.
